#7 Tokyo, Japan
Oct 10th, 2014 at Galaxy Gingakei
The last event of 7 DIGITAL ORIGINALS was held in Tokyo, right in the middle of the most fashionable area between Shibuya and Harajuku. 223 guest from the fashion and media industry attended the event that was accessible by invitation only. DJ NOA, one of the hippest underground DJs in Tokyo and also a friend of UNUSED, underlined the event with music UNUSED like to hear in their studio when getting creative. Also UNUSED’s favorite beer was served to the guests to tune in with UNUSED on a sensory level.
UNUSED’s craft was presented with 40 carefully selected photographs shot with the Leica T by the artisans themselves and a collection of garments hanging from the ceiling or being installed on handcrafted wooden frames. The guests were mesmerized by UNUSED’s masterly way of crafting garments out of high quality material like leather by printing an image taken with the Leica T on the material, slicing it, weaving it to a new fabric which is used to produce a wearable garment. If this wasn’t enough, the original picture is still visible although it was cut and weaved. Experiencing this process within the scope of an event that enabled visitors to plunge into UNUSED’s craft for one evening was a truly unique opportunity.
